Each year, Mycorrhizal Applications conducts MycoApply trials to demonstrate the benefits of mycorrhizal fungi in plant production. The 2025 trial delivered impressive results. But first, let’s take a closer look at what mycorrhizal fungi are, how they enhance a grower’s ROI, and why they are essential for sustainable greenhouse and nursery production.

What Are Mycorrhizal Fungi?

Mycorrhizal fungi are fascinating microbes that form a symbiotic relationship with plant roots. They seek out water, nutrients, and other resources that would otherwise be unavailable or difficult for the plant to access. When these fungi are used in production, they help growers boost production, utilize fewer inputs, and grow more stress-resistant plants.

MycoApply Trial Results

For this trial, plugs were treated with MycoApply Injector Endo prior to uppotting. They were then grown under greenhouse conditions for 8 weeks. The results were clear and compelling. Control plants are on the left, with the MycoApply-treated plants on the right.

Phloxstar™ Phlox MycoApply trial, Treated on the right, control on the leftPhloxstar™ Phlox trial

The Phloxstar™ Phlox trial stole the show with significant improvement in canopy growth and blooms when treated with MycoApply.

Compact SunPatiens® Tropical Rose _MycoApply Trial, Left untreated, right treated.Compact SunPatiens® Tropical Rose Trial

Compact SunPatiens® Tropical Rose was the quickest to finish with more canopy and root growth at eight weeks than the untreated control.

Kalanchoe_MycoApply trial, untreated on the left, treated on the right

Kalanchoe trial

The difference was striking and comparable to a baseball vs. a softball. The treated plants were noticeably larger in height, width, and overall vigor.

Compact SunPatiens® Red _MycoApply Trial. Left untreated. Right, treated.Compact SunPatiens® Red Trial

When treated with MycoApply, Compact SunPatiens® Red started blooming a week earlier than its untreated counterpart.

Calibrachoa_MycoApply trial. Left untreated, right treatedCalibrachoa trial

Look at that drape! The MycoApply-treated Calibrachoa shined with about 2X the cascade of the untreated control.

Rudbeckia ‘Amarillo gold’ _MycoApply trial. Left untreated., right treated.Rudbeckia ‘Amarillo gold’ trial

The difference here is clear. The MycoApply-treated Rudbeckia has several inches on the non-treated plants. Not to mention additional and more mature blooms.

Petunia_MycoApply trial. Left untreated, right, treatedPetunia trial

In eight weeks, the MycoApply-treated petunia developed more mature and wider-spread roots than its untreated counterpart.
